Sawdust Carpets
Camaiore (Lucca)
Every year, in the historic centre of Camaiore, there’s a procession for Corpus Domini. For this occasion, groups of artisans work through the night between Saturday and Sunday creating sawdust carpets (or pula in the local dialect) to
decorate the streets.
Panels of plywood are prepared beforehand, and at the last moment sawdust is mixed with colours and used to bring the images to life.
