THE SIENESE MAJOLICA
Similar to the Province of Florence, the Sienese territory boasts a long and important tradition in the history of majolica.
There were some differences; the Sienese ceramics were more richly decorated and in the 15th century the local potters introduced the biscuit with slip (a technique consisting of covering the product
with liquid clay after a first firing) applied prior to the enamelling process.
A collection of pharmaceutical pots is in the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey.
