PANNO CASENTINO
The panno casentino is a traditional woollen cloth typical of the Casentino.
The cloth is felted to make it waterproof and teased to give it a fluffy side.
The thick cloth made from the wool of the sheep in the valley was well known for its resistance to wear and tear and for withstanding the elements so it was good for travellers and people who had to spend a lot of time out of doors.
The Panno casentino is used by designers of high fashion for some of their refined and luxurious products: the coat of Givenchy worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's is a fashion icon still today!
