Stew San Giovanni Style
It originated in the early 20th century in San Giovanni Valdarno when some of the better cooks among the local factory workers used the heat from the factory furnaces to cook stews.
The secret of this speciality passed from one cook to another in the various works canteens and this gave rise to a competition that continues to this day.
The city of San Giovanni Valdarno celebrates the Stew San Giovanni Style with two special events during the year.
