Mushroom and Chestnut Festival
Vivo d’Orcia (Siena)
On display are fantastic porcini mushrooms on their own and in a myriad of preparations at lunch and dinner, accompanied by seasonal favourites like roasted chestnuts and vin brulé.
On the last day is the Palio del Boscaiolo, where the town’s two neighbourhoods compete to see whose team can most quickly prepare seating for six from a large tree trunk before sitting down and eating polenta made by the opposing team.
A mushroom-based dinner afterwards marks the end of the festival.
