A Brief History of the Festival of St. Joseph
St. Joseph’s day was a tribute to the reawakening of the nature.
The end of winter was a reason for celebration and the day was considered an important social occasion.
Up until the mid 1800’s the day was celebrated by the population of farmers who would gather in Vernio for the rural market.
Today St. Joseph’s day at Vernio is still a meeting point for rural workers.
The exhibition and market promotes the concept of economia verde (green economy), which the Bisenzio valley depends on strongly.
