The Alabaster in Volterra
An extremely soft gypsum stone, mined in the province of Volterra. The origin of the word alabaster is unclear.
However, it is certain that it comes from Egypt and the most antique vases come from that country.
In Volterra alabaster has been used to create beautiful objects since Etruscan times.
