The game is a unique mixture between modern rugby, soccer and greco-roman wrestling. Games last fifty minutes, in which players (27 on each team!) attempt to throw the ball into the opponent’s goal, to get a point, or caccia.
But any throws towards the adversary’s net must be made with great precision, because if it goes over the opponent’s goal, due to poor aim or a deflection by the defence, half a point is scored by the defending team.
Every time a goal is scored, the teams change sides. At the end of the tournament, the winning team receives a live Chianina cow from Il Maestro di Campo (the Master of the Field), while the musicians play the winner’s anthem.
After the match, a lavish banquet is served, where for once (luckily for the cow) bistecca is not on the menu!
